Glazing has become an increasingly popular structural element with architects leading to greater potential for solar heat gain and glare. Tinted glass does little more than change the appearance of the glass, while blinds do not actually keep the property cool – they just keep out the light.
By applying solar control film we can
- Reject unwanted solar heat gain
- reduce unwanted solar glare
- Block damaging ultraviolet rays
- Provide electromagnetic shielding
- Improve visual appearance
In addition to making working conditions uncomfortable, solar gain also leads to higher energy costs. In summer, about 20% of the cooling energy load in commercial properties is from reducing unwanted solar heat gain. The reduction in energy costs with solar control film can, on average, pay for the film in less than 2-3 years. Temperature reductions can be as much as 8 degrees.
Where glare is a problem solar control films reduce the effect without impacting on visible light levels or the view through the glass.
The extensive range of solar films available include reflective, semi-reflective, dual reflective, neutral tinted and colour tinted finishes to change the appearance of the building; reflective finishes can provide privacy and one-way vision when combined with the correct lighting levels.
